I’m not sure what my aversion to cooking my own rice is, but it’s real. To this day I have never made rice. Whenever a recipe calls for rice, I run over to Whole Foods and buy a cup cooked rice. The ease and simplicity of this transaction appeals much more to me than watching rice boil on my stove for 45 minutes and dirtying the pan.
Why is this relevant? Quinoa is much harder to find premade, especially plain quinoa without any shit added to it. The nutritional comparison between quinoa and rice makes me choose quinoa every time (see below). When faced with the horrible fate of having to cook my own quinoa I started thinking outside the box. This led to my discovery that you can cook quinoa in the microwave (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). If you don’t find this particularly fascinating don’t worry, inpatient cooks everywhere are happy enough for all of us.
HOW?
- Rinse and drain dry quinoa to remove residue
- Add ¼ cup rinsed quinoa to ½ cup water
- Microwave for 3 minutes
- Stir
- Microwave for another 3 minutes
Done.
